Our Curriculum

Proposal Writing Coaching

Not all organizations want our firm to write proposals for their organizations. There preference
is for a team member to provide coaching or professional development designed to help a staff
member or team of staff members become more competent, confident and effective in their
proposal writing skills. Our team of practitioners are nimble in delivering this service. A Coach
may write a section of a proposal, help a writer to think through a section or review a full
proposal with edits and recommendations. Engagements may be one-on-one, a team of
colleagues, virtual or in-person.

Capacity Building Training

Module I: Organizational Readiness

Creating a Sustainable Nonprofit Organization is an interactive workshop that provides resources,  strategies and applicable tools for participants to implement these nonprofit management principles within  their organization, focusing on organizational mission, board development, strategic planning, program  development and resource development. 

The outcome for this workshop is to increase participant’s understanding of the principles of nonprofit  management that ensures applicable best practices within their organization. 

This workshop is measured by: 

  1. 80% of participants will report an increased understanding of nonprofit management principles  as measured by pre and post-test surveys. 
  2. 95% of participants will complete an organizational assessment as measured by completed  assessments and results. 
  3. 90% of participants will identify a minimum of two strategies to implement within their  organization as measured by completed implementation plan. 

501C3 or NOT is an interactive workshop that provides an understand what obtaining a nonprofit status is  and its benefits, what industry best practices should be implemented, pros and cons as well as provide a  step-by-step process of what the U.S. Internal Revenue Service looks for when awarding a designation. 

The outcome for this workshop is to increase participants understanding of the Internal Revenue Service  Nonprofit Designation process. 

This workshop is measured by: 

  1. 90% of participants will report an increased understanding of the Internal Revenue Service  Nonprofit Designation Process. 
  2. 80% of participants will identify the difference between a for-profit organization and nonprofit  organization. 
  3. 90% of participants will report an increased understanding of its organizational readiness.

Module II: Board Development

The Board Building Cycle is an interactive workshop that provides an overview of board building best  practices, an understanding the role of a board of directors, how to identify qualified board members, as  well as how to utilize the skills, talents and resources of board members.  

The outcome for this workshop is to increase participants understanding of the board building process. This workshop is measured by: 

  1. 90% of participants will report an increased understanding of the eight principles of the  board building process. 
  2. 90% of participants will identify resources to recruit board members from their community  that meets their specific needs. 
  3. 80% of participants will develop a one-year board recruitment strategy 

Module III: Strategic Planning

Strategic Planning, Strategic Thinking and Strategic Execution is an interactive workshop that  provides an overview of the strategic planning process, types of models, completion of a SWOT (Strengths,  Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) Analysis, provides tools and resources how an organization can  incorporate these principles into the organization’s culture, as well as identify strategies how it can execute  its mission. 

The outcome for this workshop is to increase participants understanding of the purpose, role and execution  of the strategic planning process within their organization. 

This workshop is measured by: 

  1. 90% of participants will report an increased understanding of the strategic planning  process. 
  2. 90% of participants will demonstrate an increased understanding of strategic  

principles to adopt within their organization’s performance measurement. 

  1. 90% of participants will complete a one-year, step-by-step strategic planning  

roadmap that leads to effective execution.

Module IV: Program Development

Building a Sustainable Program is an interactive workshop that focuses on the understanding that  sustainable programming is an ongoing process, provides resources and strategies that meet an  organization’s planning needs, addresses the cost to provide services, as well as how to measure program  impact. 

The outcome for this workshop is to increase participants understanding of how to build a sustainable  program that aligns with the organization’s mission. 

This workshop is measured by: 

  1. 90% of participants will report an increased understanding of how to build a sustainable program. 
  1. 90% of participants will report an increased understanding of tools and resources to  utilize to respond to community needs and trends. 
  2. 90% of participants will complete a template of a program plan. 

Collaboration with a Purpose is an interactive workshop that addresses how collaboration can impact the  effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of a nonprofit organization, provides tools, resources and  strategies how to identify and maximize those relationships, communicate, set priorities and how to hold  one another accountable. 

The outcome for this workshop is to increase participants understanding of the role and impact  collaboration can have to improve organizational/program effectiveness and efficiency. 

This workshop is measured by: 

  1. 90% of participants will report an increased understanding of how collaboration impacts their  organization. 
  2. 90% of participants will define opportunities to utilize the collaborative model. 
  3. 90% of participants will demonstrate the components of a Memorandum of Understanding

Module V: Fundraising

Building Your Case for Support is an interactive workshop that provides an overview of the purpose of a  case for support, the eleven components, its uses and provides a step-by-step process how to write a clear  and compelling document. 

The outcome for this workshop is to increase participants understanding of how to develop and utilize a  case for support that attracts and retains donors. 

This workshop is measured by: 

  1. 90% of participants will report an increased understanding of how to write concise and  compelling case for support. 
  2. 90% of participants will demonstrate an increased knowledge of the components of a case for  support. 
  3. 90% of participants will complete a case for support template.

Fundraising on a $hoestring Budget is an interactive workshop that provides best practices fundraising  strategies for smaller organizations with limited capacity, provides tools, resources and strategies how to  communicate your mission to your stakeholders and how to build deeper relationships with donors and how  to engage volunteers.  

The outcome for this workshop is to increase participants understanding of how to create a successful  fundraising program that fits their capacity, expertise and resources. 

This workshop is measured by: 

  1. 90% of participants will increase their understanding of how to develop a successful fundraising  that fits their capacity. 

2. 90% of participants will create a strategy to engage volunteers in their fundraising program. 3. 90% of participants will complete a one-page fundraising plan.

Module VI: Proposal Writing

Successful Strategies for Proposal Writing is an interactive workshop that utilizes a step-by-step  approach to help participants develop a competitive proposal.  

The outcome for this workshop is to increase participants understanding of how to write a concise and  targeted proposal. 

This workshop is measured by: 

  1. 90% of participants will report an increased understanding of the eight components of a  proposal. 
  2. 90% of participants will research and identify five potential funders.

Module VII: Leadership

Nonprofit Leadership in the 21st Century is an interactive workshop that discusses the critical skills most  common among successful nonprofit leaders, leading in an intergeneration organizational culture,  identifying personal leadership skills, how to effectively engage with staff and volunteers and determine  what tools are needed to lead a successful 21st Century organization. . 

The outcome for this workshop is to increase participants understanding of the skills required to lead a  nonprofit organization in the 21st century. 

This workshop is measured by: 

  1. 90% of participants will identify what leadership skills they possess. 
  2. 90% of participants will create a strategy to engage their leadership team. 
  3. 90% of participants will determine what skills are needed to strengthen their leadership team.
